Nova Scotia's East River is a "catch-and-release" salmon river which is ablaze with colored reflections in mid October. I used a mix of hard Nupastels and more opaque soft pastels to depict the flow of the water and the brilliance of the reflected maples. I used my favorite surface, Rives BFK paper coated with burgundy Art Spectrum Colourfixe pastel primer, and left part of the burgundy surface showing through in some areas under thin glazes of pastel pigment to reinforce a sense of the fluid, crystal-clear water.
