This pastel is part of my "Looking Through" series in which the opening in the barn creates a landscape within the landscape. I have painted several versions of this scene in which the arrangement of the farmer's Adirondack chairs tell different stories. The separation of the chairs in this version hint at a lack of communication, thus the title "Monologue." I used a variety of pastels on Rives BFK paper that I coated with burgundy Art Spectrum ColurFixe pastel medium.
