Aunt Ethel and Patchouli were fast friends. Aunt Ethel was my partner’s aunt, who died before I could meet her, but I always knew he was quite fond of her. Using a very old and small snapshot, I wanted to give him a painting of her and his beloved Patchouli. Aunt Ethel had a philosophical take on the world: “People living everywhere” — her favorite phrase, as if it explained everything. Maybe it does. This was done on Lux Archival with soft pastels and a little panpastel.
