Pops lived almost 102 years, but I only knew him for the last few of those. Yet, he became an important person in my life, and we developed a very close bond. Pops always said, if asked how he was, “I’m fine; everything’s fine!” He was a happy man til the day he passed in 2019. I wanted to do a portrait for a long time but found that all the pictures I had of him were not very good. This one of him eating showed his mottled skin so I had rejected it. Then I thought, “Maybe I can make it beautiful if I really try.” It was a labor of love for me. I did it with all Terry Ludwig pastels and a little panpastel and pastel pencil on pastelmat.
