The Santa Fe River

The Santa Fe River, Emerging Pastel Artist
The Santa Fe River
There is a painting group in Santa Fe, NM called the Santa Fe Pleinairians that meets every Tuesday, year round. I joined them at the Santa Fe Canyon Preserve to paint on a cool but sunny fall day. I walked down to (and rock hopped across) the Santa Fe river, which is more like a creek and often is dry. It was running though thanks to a wet monsoon season. Running water is so rare in many parts of New Mexico so it was a treat to paint this scene. I started off just doing a charcoal drawing, then decided I liked the scene and walked back to get my pastels out of my car and made this painting pretty quickly.
