When my wife and I bought our house, we noticed a whole bank of small trees in the yard that was home to these beautiful flowers. She knew right away that they were Rose of Sharon. Each flower of the Rose of Sharon plant opens for one day and closes by nighttime. And the blooms are a variety of colors and I have used them as the subject in many of my drawings and paintings.
It was created with a variety of pastels and pastel pencils on Canson toned paper. My goal was to create as much variety as I could in the overall painting as well as each petal.
