Marsh scenes proliferate on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. While they are always lovely and inspiring I found that this particular hidden marsh during late fall, early winter more intriguing than marshes I have painted in other seasons. I was struck that even in this time when the colors of the marsh are no longer vibrant and bursting with life there was a stillness as well as a richness to the remaining color that spoke to me. There was a peaceful feeling and sense of solitude without the raucous calling of the birds, ducks and geese that usually accompanies this spot in Spring and Summer that soothed my soul. This season in the marsh was more interesting to me and I wanted to capture those feelings in my painting.
